DHX takes Echo Bridge titles

Canada’s DHX Media has acquired more than 100 children’s and family titles, including the distribution rights to teen drama franchise Degrassi, from US-based distributor Echo Bridge Entertainment.

The deal adds about 1,200 half-hours to DHX’s library of more than 10,000 half-hours, which it claims is the world’s largest independent library of children’s and family shows.

DHX acquired Epitome Pictures earlier this year, but it now appears that the deal did not include international distribution rights to the long-running show.

Echo Bridge Entertainment also held the rights to other Epitome series Instant Star and The LA Complex, the international distribution rights to which DHX has now added to its library.

In total, the acquired slate consists of outright ownership of 117 titles, and distribution rights for an additional 34 titles. Other series in the deal include Lunar Jim and Beast Wars: Transformers and Emily of New Moon. Financial details were not disclosed.

Epitome recently produced the 14th season of Degrassi: The Next Generation for MTV in Canada and TeenNick in the US. The franchise also includes The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High.
