Counterfeit Cats purrs in the US

Disney XD in the US has picked up animated comedy Counterfeit Cat, which was commissioned by the Mouse House in EMEA and Teletoon in Canada last year.

The 52×11′ series is a coproduction between UK-based Wildseed Kids and Toronto-based Tricon Kids & Family, which is handling global distribution across all platforms out of its sales arm.

The cartoon is aimed at six- to 12-year-olds and follows a naive nine-year-old alien destined to save the universe and an anxious but vain house cat who’d prefer to save himself.

The series is accompanied by a batch of 11×2′ shorts and will begin airing in the US on June 20 on Disney XD. It will also be available on the Mouse House’s multiple platforms, including the Disney XD app and via VoD.

Pre-production took place at Wildseed’s Bristol studio with animation production handled by Atomic Cartoons in Vancouver.
