Corus appoints Teletoon chief

Canada’s Corus Entertainment has appointed a director of content for kids channel Teletoon following Alan Gregg’s departure earlier this year.

Athena Georgaklis, previously manager of original production for Teletoon, will now oversee content development, acquisitions and production for the English and French versions of Teletoon’s brands.

These include Teletoon, Teletoon Retro, Teletoon at Night and Cartoon Network, as well as their respective multi-platform services.

Georgaklis, who has been part of the Teletoon team for the past 17 years, will manage two original production teams in Canada, with execs Hugues Dufour in Montreal and Brandon Lane in Toronto reporting directly to her.

Former incumbent Gregg left the company in February, as revealed by C21, and later joined the fledgling Dublin-based production studio set up by Canadian animation house Mercury Filmworks.

His departure came after Corus Entertainment got final regulatory approval to take over the all-animation net, among others, late last year.
