C5 explores Scotland’s great outdoors

Channel 5 in the UK has commissioned a factual miniseries that documents wildlife at one of Scotland’s most famous areas of natural beauty.

Loch Lomond: A Year in the Wild (4×60′), a coproduction between London-based Tigress Productions and GroupM Entertainment, is due to air on the Viacom-owned UK network next year.

Loch Lomond is located on the western edge of Scotland and boasts 700 square miles of rugged mountains, hidden valleys and rivers.

A diverse array of species including red deer, Atlantic salmon and golden eagles will be on show in the documentary, which C5 says is one of the first British nature docs to be shot on state of the art Red cameras that give improved picture quality at both high speed and slow motion.

Dick Colthurst, executive producer at Tigress Productions, said: “We’re so used to watching nature films shot in exotic parts of the world there’s a real danger we overlook how amazing our own wildlife is.”

Earlier this week C5’s head of acquisitions Katie Keenan had her remit expanded to cover all Viacom channels in the UK, following the US giant’s £450m (US$759m) takeover of C5 in September.
