BET expands programme chief’s remit

Viacom’s BET Networks has expanded the remit of its president of music programming and specials to include responsibility for all original content at the US cablenet.

In the newly created head of programming role, Stephen Hill, who joined BET in 1999, will report to BET chairman and CEO Debra L Lee.

Hill was previously responsible for BET’s music shows and specials including the BET Awards, BET Honors, Black Girls Rock, The Hip Hop Awards and Celebration of Gospel.

He was also a member of the team that launched the scripted comedy Real Husbands of Hollywood, which starred Kevin Hart, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin, Nick Cannon, Nelly and Cynthia Kaye McWilliams.

Prior to joining the network, Hill was director of music programming at Viacom’s MTV, responsible for selecting and programming all genres of videos.
