Amazon pays respects to Departed

Amazon is developing a TV series based on Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning feature film The Departed, which starred Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Set in present-day Chicago, the series will take inspiration from the 2006 movie as well as Infernal Affairs, the Hong Kong crime thriller on which The Departed was based.

Amazon’s take on the story follows a young cop who goes undercover to infiltrate a ruthless Latino gang, which simultaneously plants its own man in the police department.

It will be written by Jason Richman (Detroit 1-8-7) and produced by Amazon Studios alongside Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment in association with Warner Bros TV.

Directed by Scorsese, The Departed movie won four Oscars in 2007, including Best Picture and Best Director.

It comes after the US streaming service confirmed it was adding a series based on author Tom Clancy’s CIA agent character Jack Ryan to its slate of originals.
