Acorn TV boards BBC’s Detectorists

BBC comedy Detectorists stars Toby Jones (left) and Mackenzie Crook

Acorn TV, the US SVoD service dedicated to British television, has boarded the third season of BBC4 comedy Detectorists as a coproducer.

The streaming service previously acquired the first two seasons of the show from distributor DRG and has now joined the production.

The series, about the friendship between two metal-detecting enthusiasts played by Mackenzie Crook (who also created the show) and Toby Jones, is produced by DRG, Channel X North, Lola Entertainment and Treasure Trove Productions.

It joins other coproductions at Acorn including Acceptable Risk, Girlfriends and Keeping Faith.

“With its perfect casting, subtle humour and first-rate writing, Mackenzie Crook has created a winning comedy that our subscribers as well as the US media have embraced,” said Shane Murphy, MD at Acorn Media.
