YouTube takes Dunst, Clooney comedy

YouTube Premium (fka YouTube Red) has ordered a dark comedy to be executive produced by George Clooney, Grant Heslov and its star, Kirsten Dunst.

On Becoming a God in Central Florida had previously been in development with AMC, although the series will now move forward with YouTube, according to US reports.

The Google-owned platform has ordered a 10-episode first season, which is set to debut in 2019.

The series is set near Orlando in the early 1990s and follows a minimum-wage water park employee (Dunst) who schemes her way up a multibillion-dollar pyramid selling scheme that drove her family to ruin.

Clooney and Heslov will executive produce via their Smokehouse Pictures production outfit, alongside co-creators Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky, who will also write. TriStar Television will produce.

YouTube Red’s rebrand as YouTube Premium was announced last month, when the service also commissioned a second season of dance drama Step Up: High Water.
