Weta Digital hires Disney alum Le Cam

New Zealand VFX studio Weta Digital has hired former Disney animation exec Ann Le Cam as its senior VP of global talent and animation production in LA as part of its push into original content.

Le Cam joins Wellington-based Weta’s production team after three decades with The Walt Disney Company, where she last served as senior VP for studio planning and talent at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

While at Disney, Le Cam also held executive positions heading production, studio planning, data analytics and human resources.

During her tenure, the studio released features including Tangled, Wreck-it-Ralph 1 and 2, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana and Frozen 1 and 2.

Le Cam will be based in Weta Digital’s LA offices and report to CEO Prem Akkaraju. The appointment follows the VFX specialist’s expansion into animation last year.

“Throughout her career, Ann has built a reputation for innovative thinking, transformational leadership and production excellence. As we expand Weta globally and into original content and animation, it was important to bring in someone of Ann’s calibre in this leadership role,” said Akkaraju.
