Viacom unveils Hitchcock drama

Atrapa a un Ladrón is based on Alfred Hitchcock movie To Catch a Thief

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) divisions around the world have linked up on their first original coproduction, a Spanish-language TV remake of Alfred Hitchcock movie To Catch a Thief.

Viacom International Media Networks Southern and Western Europe, Middle East and Africa and Viacom International Studios (VIS) Latin America are on board the adaptation, which was unveiled last year. Pablo Echarri (El Método) and Alexandra Jiménez (Anacleto) play the lead roles.

Atrapa a un Ladrón will run to 10 episodes and will air on Viacom’s Paramount TV network around the world.

The show has been created by Spanish showrunner Javier Olivares, who was behind series including El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Department of Time) for RTVE in Spain.

Amalia Martinez de Velasco, senior VP for entertainment brands at Viacom Southern and Western Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the show “marks an important step forward for us into the world of original productions for the Paramount TV channels across our regions.”

Juan Acosta, exec VP and chief operating officer for VIMN Americas, added: “Securing such incredible talent for the series is testament to the quality programming we strive to produce with all of our VIS productions, and we are proud to be able to offer to key clients around the globe.”

As in the original film, the TV version will follow a reformed burglar known as The Cat in his struggle to unveil a mysterious impersonator who is stealing in his name, while a love story between the two protagonists blossoms.

Last week VIS linked up with Chilean media firm Mega to coproduce survival reality show Resistiré, based on the original MTV format Stranded With a Million Dollars.
