Viacom Digital lines up shortform series

Viacom Digital Studios International (VDSI) has ordered two shortform series for Comedy Central International, including an all-women sketch show.

Laughing at Salad will debut online in January 2019 and is a nine-part sketch series featuring Maddie Rice, Beth Rylance, Bronwyn James, Danielle Vitalis and Elinor Lawless.

Each sketch is written by different women writers, including Harriet Kemsley, Sarah Morgan, Gemma Arrowsmith, Kat Butterfield and Cassie Atkinson.

Topics covered include death threats, how to deal with a hangover and surviving the hen party from hell. The series was made in-house and was produced and directed by Lucy Forbes. It will be released on Comedy Central International’s YouTube and Facebook pages in January 2019.

Bad Cramps (6×5′), meanwhile, is a scripted series from Georgie Fuller and Danni Jackson, stars of Comedy Central’s shortform show Bad Snappers, which amassed 16 million views online.

Bad Cramps is described as “a sexy, raucous and completely inappropriate take on everything from one-night stands to heavy periods.” It is now available on Comedy Central UK’s YouTube and Facebook pages, with additional regional releases planned in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, Comedy Central has greenlit three shortform series that will begin development in January and will be released internationally on Facebook and YouTube. These are 10-part scripted series Waiting, from Ryan Sampson (Plebs, Up the Women), in which two characters are stuck waiting in various scenarios; season two of Fin Taylor’s Bullshit Bingo; and S3 of Josh Investigates, with influencer Josh Pieters.
