Topic takes Oz titles ahead of launch

Soon-to-launch North American SVoD service Topic has agreed a distribution deal with Australia’s ABC Commercial for comedies and docs, including two fronted by comedian Hannah Gadsby (Nanette).

Topic, which will launch on November 21 in the US and Canada, will feature Australian programming such as Hannah Gadsby’s Nakedy Nudes and Hannah Gadsby’s Oz, comedy series F**cking Adelaide and shortform series Goober.

Documentaries such as China’s Artful Dissident, which follows the Chinese-Australian political cartoonist and activist Badiucao, are also part of the distribution agreement with the commercial arm of Australian pubcaster ABC.

Backed by First Look Media, Topic will be available on Topic.com, Apple iOS and tvOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV and Roku next month.

We’re very excited to work with ABC Commercial to add this collection of hit Australian programming to the Topic platform for our subscribers,” said Topic’s senior director of acquisitions, Jennifer Liang.
