The Hub targets family co-viewing

The Hub Network in the US has commissioned a primetime reality series called Parents Just Don’t Understand, designed to encourage co-viewing within families.

The 22-part series heralds the beginning of a new focus on original primetime programming that appeals to both kids and their parents, the channel said.

Parents Just Don’t Understand will give parents the chance to walk in their kids’ shoes, while children will get to see what it is like to take on some of their parents’ responsibilities.

It will be hosted and exec produced by Joey Fatone, a former member of boyband N Sync, while Endemol-owned prodco 51 Minds Entertainment will produce ahead of a fall release.

“Our co-viewing audience numbers reflect what we are also hearing from kids and their parents in our research, which is that they want more quality entertainment they can watch together,” said Margaret Loesch, president and CEO of The Hub Network.

The Hub Network is a multi-platform joint venture between Discovery Communications and toyco Hasbro.
