STV Productions hires C4 buyer

STV Productions in the UK has hired a Channel 4 exec as head of development for daytime and popular factual.

Ramy El-Bergamy

Ramy El-Bergamy arrives at the London-based prodco having been commissioning executive for daytime at commercially funded pubcaster C4, working on shows such as A Place in the Sun and Four in a Bed.

He joins Jim Regan, head of daytime and popular factual, in building STV Productions’ slate in the genre, which includes Antiques Road Trip and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, both for the BBC.

STV said El-Bergamy’s appointment was part of its three-year growth plan, through which it is investing £15m (US$19.25m) in content and digital. It follows the recent hire of Craig Hunter as creative director of factual.

“Ramy brings extensive experience and expertise to our daytime and popular factual team and I look forward to welcoming him on board,” said David Mortimer, who joined STV as MD from UK production group Tinopolis last year.

El-Bergamy was previously C4’s on-screen diversity executive, working with commissioners, talent and the independent sector to ensure people with the best talent and from the widest possible pool were seen on screen.

Before that, he spent 10 years in the independent sector, with credits including Big Brother and The Voice.
