Sky, eOne agree movie pact

Sky and Entertainment One (eOne) have agreed a long-term partnership that will see the latter’s blockbuster movies made available via the European pay TV giant.

The deal covers both Hasbro-owned eOne’s existing library and new releases in development and means almost 200 movies from the Canadian company’s library will be available to Sky Cinema customers at no extra cost.

In addition, starting from summer 2021, Sky will have the first-run pay TV rights to eOne’s feature films as well as a number of new releases exclusively, including upcoming holiday romcom Happiest Season, starring Kristen Stewart.

It follows Sky’s deals with Disney, Discovery, Sony and DreamWorks Animation to increase the variety of content available on Sky Q.

Stuart Baxter, president, international distribution at eOne, said the scale of the partnership made it one of the biggest strategic deals the company has done this year.

The agreement was brokered by eOne’s Dan Gopal, executive VP of sales for EMEA, and Patrick Roberts, VP of international TV sales, along with Sky’s Katie Keenan, head of acquisitions and movies, and Maud Letreguilly, head of content acquisitions.
