Shannara Chronicles heads to UK

The Shannara Chronicles premiered in the US last week

Viacom -owned UK channel 5* has picked up fantasy drama The Shannara Chronicles following its premiere on MTV in the US last week.

The 10×60’ series, previously known as Shannara and based on the fantasy books by Terry Brooks, is set 1,000 years in the future and follows three heroes as they embark on a quest to stop an evil demon army from destroying the world.

Filmed in New Zealand, the show is produced by MTV with Sonar Entertainment and is written and exec produced by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Brooks and Dan Farah (Alter Egos) are exec producers.

The show also airs in Canada while Germany’s Tele München Gruppe also acquired rights for TV, video-on-demand and home video in German-speaking Europe last year.

The acquisition comes after 5* announced that it would also be the UK home for Heroes Reborn.
