Script Angel, the UK screenwriter-coaching and talent-development company founded by drama executive Hayley McKenzie, has set up a Scottish base and added a new member to its coaching team.

Bafta-winning screenwriter Douglas Dougan will head the new Scottish office in Edinburgh.

Dougan has previously served as development officer at Scottish Screen, development producer for BFI-funded Cineworks film programme, and as director of Edinburgh Mediabase.

He set up his own production company, with credits including Scottish Bafta winner Run, Tony, Run!, and also created and teaches the year-long screenwriting programme at the University of Edinburgh.

Additionally, Bafta Cymru-winning producer and script editor Katherine Lannon has been appointed as a member of Script Angel’s coaching staff. Lannon will work with emerging screenwriters both in the UK and internationally.

Katherine Lannon

Lannon has experience working as a producer and script developer for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky, as well as with production outlets Ecosse Films, Hillbilly Films and World Productions. She has also developed the BBC Drama series Doctors and worked on feature-length dramas such as Shirley, Eroica, The Secret Life of Mrs Beeton, The History of Mr Polly, Lennon Naked, Lawless and A Little Cracker.

McKenzie, CEO of Script Angel, said: “The growing industry demand for diverse, authentic new voices is much welcomed and at Script Angel we’re putting our efforts into facilitating this discovery – finding and developing that next generation of talent. Katherine and Douglas are both incredibly experienced script development professionals whose expertise will help us to develop unique and original new screenwriting talent across the UK’s nations and regions.”
