The animal hasn’t been dead for long, yet it’s full of life. It’s taken just a few short hours for its body to become the home of choice for countless organisms. Its carcass quickly becomes a temporary metropolis where next generations are fathered, babies are born and children turn into adults. The settlers only move on when the resources have dwindled. It’s a perpetual cycle, closely tying life to death and at the same time securing the preservation of our habitats. The theme sounds macabre, but the story of the necrophages and tiny organisms that clear up after death is not only important but also gripping and fascinating.

This film offers a singular excursion into the world of life after death. It will put the spotlight on a widely underrated habitat like never before: as a banquet for the beasts and as a life-giving oasis full of settlers that live together in a complex hierarchy.
It is life that will be the focus. The carcass will not be presented as a disgusting horror-scene, but exposed as part of the perpetual cycle between life and death that forms the basis for our living world. The film and its subject always remain gripping, surprising, insightful – and of course entertaining.
