Radio-Canada names new exec director

Canada’s French-language broadcaster Radio-Canada has appointed Dany Meloul as executive director of television to replace the outgoing Dominique Chaloult.

Dany Meloul

Meloul joins from Bell Media, where she was VP of programming for French-language TV, on October 10.

At Bell Media, she oversaw the planning, programming, acquisitions and production of original content for Canal Vie, Canal D, Z, VRAK, Investigation, Super Écran and Cinepop.

Chaloult announced in June she was leaving to spend more time with her family and to work in the indie sector.

Michel Bissonnette, senior VP of Radio-Canada, said: “Dany comes to us with a deep knowledge of the industry, in a context where business models are jostled by increased competition from digital giants, and the changing habits of French-speaking audiences. She is well respected in the industry.”

Meloul will head the programming of channels ICI TÉLÉ, ICI ARTV, ICI Tou.TV and ICI EXPLORA. Among other things, she will be responsible for implementing a new youth strategy for the Canadian broadcaster and ensuring a better representation of diversity on screen.
