Quibi reboots MTV’s Punk’d, Singled Out

MTV’s original prank show Punk’d

Jeffrey Katzenberg’s forthcoming mobile-targeted streamer Quibi has linked up with MTV Studios to reboot MTV franchises Punk’d and Singled Out.

Available exclusively on Quibi, both will be reimaginations of the pop culture hits, each featuring 20 new episodes under 10 minutes long targeting those viewing on the go.

Prank show Punk’d will be produced by STX Television in association with Viacom-owned MTV Studios, while dating show Singled Out will be produced solely by the latter.

It is the latest example of Viacom expanding the MTV brand beyond traditional platforms and comes after it was one of the numerous US media companies to invest in Katzenberg’s mobile-first company last year.

“This deal builds on MTV’s strategy of reinventing our iconic shows to reach new audiences on pioneering new platforms like Quibi,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV.

“For the generation who grew up watching Punk’d and Singled Out on MTV, this represents a long overdue reboot of two well-loved shows. It’s also an opportunity to bring these enduring and classic MTV franchises to a brand new audience on our exciting new platform,” said Doug Herzog of Quibi.
