Two married couples, Sabine and Bernd, and Jakob and Charlie, have created a paradise for themselves on one of the Oxen Islands, where they live with their children Karl (15) and Kjell (16), and Emile (17) and Cecile (16), respectively. When Jakob’s brother Jonas returns from his disappearance 15 years ago, the paradise they built begins to fall apart.
 
Despite their parents’ warnings, the kids seem to fall under Jonas’ spell. And just as Sabine is about to face her own past with Jakob, the unthinkable happens and Kjell falls overboard on a sailing trip with Charlie and Jakob and disappears without a trace. While the kids mask their pain by drifting deeper into Jonas’ world, the parents cope with this tragedy by immersing themselves in their work. However, Bernd is consumed by the mystery of his son’s disappearance. There are inconsistencies about the accident that lead him to second guess and undermine his friends, leaving chaos and anger in his woke. Complicating matters, Charlie and Bernd are partners in a company, which finds itself in a precarious situation. Charlie is compelled to tell the truth about what really happened the night of Kjell’s accident and when Bernd hears the truth, he must accept his grief and reconnect with his friends, forgiving them for the lies they told.
 
Just as the families are beginning to heal and reconnect, Karl discovers that Kjell survived the accident. However, their joy is tainted by the realization that Kjell’s disappearance may not have been on accident, but was actually planned. What motivated him to leave his family and friends? Sabine realizes the answer may be buried in a secret that is really a lie on which the families’ paradise is built. But the truth brings unexpected consequences that may shatter this paradise forever.
