OUTtv, No Equal to adapt transgender novel

Canadian LGBTQI+ network OUTtv is developing a drama with local producer No Equal Entertainment based on a novel series about a transgender private detective.

Detective Sanchez was written by TE Wilson and published by Boularderie Island Press. The adaptation, titled Mezcalero, was created by James Motluk and JB Sugar, with both serving as executive producers and Motluk penning the pilot.

The one-hour drama has been awarded development funding from the CMF Pilot Export Programme and the Bell Fund Slate Development Fund.

Mezcalero follows a transgender Mexican-Canadian detective who gets drawn into a complicated missing persons case.

No Equal Entertainment is seeking Mexican coproduction partners and will participate in Canada’s Mexico trade mission as official guests of the 2018 edition of Mercado, Industria, Cine y Audiovisual (MICA), taking place in Mexico City.
