Nicely takes Folktellers books to series

LA-based prodco and distributor Nicely Entertainment is collaborating with author Josef Bastian on a TV series adaptation of his book series Folktellers: Excerpts From An Unknown Guidebook.

Peter Mohan

Orphan Black’s Peter Mohan will serve as exec producer and showrunner for the series. Mohan’s credits also include The Hardy Boys for Hulu, The Listener for Fox/ION/CTV and Mutant X for Tribune.

Vanessa Shapiro, the former Gaumont exec who set up Nicely in May last year, will also exec produce and handle global distribution.

The show will be aimed at eight- to 12-year-olds. Season one (10×45’) will be based on the first three books in the series: Phase of the Moon, Cave In The Rock and Shadows on the Silver Strings.

The Excerpts from an Unknown Guidebook series tells the story of an unassuming teenager who has his world turned upside down when he learns he is destined to become a Folkteller, a teller of those essential stories that comprise the hopes, fears and potential of humanity across all dimensions.
