Ex-Gaumont exec Shapiro forms prodco

A Very Charming Christmas Town has been completed by Nicely

Vanessa Shapiro, a former executive at French film studio Gaumont, has launched a distribution and production company in LA.

Nicely Entertainment aims to produce, acquire and distribute series and movies to multiple platforms, audiences and markets around the world.

Nicely is debuting an initial slate of seven movies and a young-adult drama series. It is also in development on a further three series to be announced later this year.

Recently completed and ready for delivery are Nicely’s first two holiday movies, A Very Charming Christmas Town, coproduced by Nicely and The Ninth House Films, and Christmas Inn Farmstead, produced by Love Christmas Films.

In pre-production and scheduled to shoot in Australia this June is romantic movie Romance in Sapphire Cave, which Nicely is coproducing with The Steve Jaggi Company.

The young-adult series, meanwhile, is Australian show Dive Club, which Nicely is pre-selling. The 12×22′ series is produced by The Steve Jaggi Company for Network 10 and follows a feisty group of teen divers who race to find their best friend when she disappears after a storm hits their small coastal town.

Shapiro has taken on the role of CEO of the new company and appointed Laura Hoffman as senior VP of sales and operations.

Hoffman, who has worked in the distribution business for almost 20 years, previously worked with Shapiro at Marvista Entertainment and at Gaumont.

Shapiro was formerly president of worldwide TV distribution and coproduction at Gaumont, where she served as an exec producer on Amazon Prime’s upcoming original series El Presidente, as well as 10 holiday movies including Hallmark’s Merry Christmas Match and Lifetime’s A Date by Christmas Eve.

“2020 is starting as a challenging year with Covid-19 shutting down production around the world. At Nicely Entertainment, we feel privileged that we were able to lock production on our first two movies in February prior to the lockdown,” Shapiro said.

“We are thankful to be able to develop and produce TV series and movies with well-established talent and production companies worldwide, and we are looking forward to delivering quality content to our trusted partners.”
