NHNZ ventures into Antartic doc

New Zealand factual producer NHNZ has joined forces with National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) and Smithsonian Networks to coproduce a doc about the state of marine life in the Antartic.

NGCI will premiere the one-hour special this June under the name Expedition Antarctica, with Smithsonian airing it as Into the Frozen Abyss.

The film centres on the work of scientists on the Tangaroa research ship as they investigate the area’s marine life.

“Antarctica is one of the last and most impenetrable frontiers left on the planet. This film taps into this interest, and introduces our audience to scientists battling incredible hardship to better understand the creatures thriving in one of the harshest landscapes on the planet,” said Sydney Suissa, executive VP of content for NGCI.
