ZDFneo gets together with Keshet’s Mythological Ex for German romantic comedy

Romantic comedy My Ex is based on Israeli scripted format Mythological Ex

German public broadcaster ZDF has greenlit a local-language adaptation of hit Israeli scripted format Mythological Ex for younger-skewing digital channel ZDFneo.

To be produced by Keshet Germany under the working title My Ex, the six-part romantic comedy focuses on a successful interior designer (played by Palina Rojinski) who is told by a modern-day oracle that she’s already met the love of her life – but has broken up with him. She has until the end of the summer to embark on a journey through her past relationships to find her true love.

The commission was announced by distributor Keshet International, which licenses Mythological Ex worldwide. The format was originally created, written and directed by Sigal Avin (Losing Alice) and produced by Mosh Danon of Inosan Productions for Israeli broadcaster Keshet 12.

The German version has been written by Elena Hell (22 Bahnen) and Marcus Pfeiffer (Beckenrand Sheriff) and will be directed by Tarek Roehlinger. It began filming in the Czech Republic this week and will premiere in 2026.

Mythological Ex has previously been adapted in the US for CBS and in Mexico for Televisa. Keshet Germany’s recent work includes Messiah Superstar for streamer Joyn, Der Schatten for ZDFneo and the RTL+ black comedy Unter Freunden Stirbt Man Nicht, adapted from Israeli series Stockholm.

Jasmin Verkoyen, commissioning editor for films and series at ZDF, said: “With its modern tone and contemporary take on romance, My Ex is a perfect fit for ZDFneo’s progressive profile and younger audiences.”

Christina Christ, co-MD of Keshet Germany and producer of My Ex, added: “After years of passionate work – based on Sigal Avin’s brilliant format – bringing My Ex to life feels like a dream come true.”
