WildBrain acquires Personality AI to build interactive AI experiences around IP

John Goscha founded Personality AI last year

Canadian children’s media company WildBrain has acquired US-based Personality AI, a developer of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) experiences for entertainment characters, for an initial consideration of US$11m in cash and one million WildBrain shares.

The deal gives WildBrain a technology platform for creating interactive experiences through which audiences can engage directly with well-known characters, both ones it owns and ones owned by third parties.

Personality AI will operate within WildBrain, with founder and CEO John Goscha joining the company’s executive leadership team and Personality’s AI and product development teams also moving across.

In addition to the upfront payment, the cost of the deal will increase significantly based on Personality AI’s revenue performance over the next three years.

The acquisition includes an additional US$2m payment due on the first anniversary of the deal closing, while WildBrain has also agreed to pay up to US$56m if Personality AI hits revenue targets in 2027, 2028 and 2029.

Personality AI already works with many big players across the entertainment ecosystem. It was selected by Amazon last year to develop a generative AI platform for Amazon’s kids’ subscription service, Amazon Kids+.

It has also worked with Hasbro on Hey Peppa Pig, an interactive voice experience enabling children to talk with the Peppa Pig character through games and activities based on the series. The experience launched on Fire Kids tablets through Amazon Kids+ in December 2025.

Founded by Goscha last year, Personality AI says its systems are designed specifically for children, with moderated interactions, age-appropriate information and controls around usage. The company is part of the PRIVO COPPA Safe Harbor programme, an independent certification programme focused on compliance with US children’s privacy rules. It also says it does not store or monetise children’s personal information or retain voice recordings.

For WildBrain, the deal adds another potential revenue stream to its existing franchise business, including its WildBrain CPLG licensing agency. The company said Personality AI already has a pipeline of prospective licensing engagements and that the technology could be used across consumer products, digital platforms and physical locations.

The Canadian company, which is reshaping its business after shuttering its broadcasting channels business last year, said the deal will “enable deeper consumer engagement with entertainment IP beyond traditional licensing and content” and allow it to create “safe-by-design, scalable character experiences that can be built once and deployed anywhere.”

“Personality AI enables more continuous interaction between fans and brands, strengthening our ability to deliver end-to-end franchise solutions to partners,” said WildBrain president and CEO Josh Scherba.

“This highly complementary acquisition positions us and Personality AI as a more integrated partner to IP owners globally through our in-house licensing agency, WildBrain CPLG, while helping support the continued growth of both our owned and partner brands.”
