Webtoons specialist Manta brings in Amazon alum Travis Kim as CEO

Former Amazon and LG Electronics executive Travis Kim has been named CEO of South Korean digital comics platform Manta.

Kim starts work in the newly created position immediately and will reports to Kisik Bae, the founder of Manta’s parent company, RIDI Corporation.

He is charged with spearheading Manta’s collection of storytelling IP and solidifying a strategy to build scale. Kim will divide his time between the US and South Korea.

Prior to joining Manta, Kim served as chief product officer at CLASS101, a Korean startup, and made contributions to tech giants including Amazon and LG Electronics.

Bae said: “Travis has the proven leadership acumen, honed through a myriad of management roles, enabling him to take the helm at Manta and expedite the company’s growth.

“We have full confidence that he is the ideal leader to align all facets of Manta – from product development to operations, marketing, content strategy and beyond – showcasing the powerhouse Manta is destined to become in the future.”

Manta’s subscription-based webtoon platform reaches 10 million users, who read titles such as Under the Oak Tree and Disobey the Duke if you Dare.
