WBD Access and HBO Max reveal return of Script Engine writers’ initiative

HBO Max and WBD Access are bringing back the Script Engine writers’ programme

SERIES MANIA: Streamer HBO Max and Warner Bros Discovery’s talent development division WBD Access have announced the second edition of the Script Engine writers’ programme.

Created in collaboration with Series Mania Institute, it offers a development pathway for mid‑level screenwriters, supporting inclusive, locally rooted storytelling which taps into HBO’s strategic ambitions.

The second run focuses on writers with demonstrable connections to France, Spain, Italy and Germany. Three writers from each of those territories will take part in a four‑month development programme, working towards an original series concept intended for HBO Max.

The programme combines high‑level training, regional-specific coaching and one‑to‑one mentoring. It culminates in a project presentation with regional HBO Max executives, giving shortlisted participants the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback. All selected projects will then enter a six‑month first‑look period in their respective territories.

Grace Moss, VP of inclusion pipeline programmes, said: “The expansion of this programme into new countries is a signal that our audiences are increasingly hungry for more locally relevant stories and, more than ever, we’re curious to hear from the next generation of outstanding writers.”
