Warner Bros Discovery, Prime Video team on HBO Max carriage in Europe

Game of Thrones spin-off  A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has struck a new distribution deal with Prime Video to carry HBO Max in Italy, Germany and Austria, as the streaming service goes live in eight new territories across Europe today.

The service has now launched in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Israel and Greece, expanding its reach into more than 100 countries worldwide.

The European rollout will be completed when the service arrives in the UK and Ireland at the end of March.

WBD secured the multi-year distribution agreement with Prime Video to carry HBO Max as an add-on subscription to Prime Video customers in Italy, Germany and Austria following a similar deal in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium.

In Germany, HBO Max and RTL+ will be available together in a bundle that provides access to both services for a single subscription price. Customers in Austria will also soon be able to enjoy the same bundle. Additionally, waipu.tv will integrate HBO Max into its platform for the German launch.

In Switzerland, the launch takes place in partnership with Sunrise and Swisscom. In Israel, Hot and Yes will make HBO Max available to its subscribers via their platforms. In Greece, HBO Max also continues to be available through Vodafone, since their launch in February 2025.

Viewers will be able to access HBO Originals, Max Originals, Warner Bros films and titles from the DC Universe, with the option to take up Basic with Ads, Standard and Premium plans. There is also the option of a further Sports add-on.

In Italy, WBD has signed a new strategic partnership with TIM, with the multi-year agreement signalling the arrival of HBO Max soon on TimVision on select packages.

The agreement also includes the renewal of WBD content for TimVision customers who will continue to see content from Discovery+, with six Eurosport channels as well as CNN International, and a selection of films such as Dune, Aquaman, and Joker and HBO TV series like The Undoing, Mare of Easttown and Sharp Objects.

US titles available on HBO Max include new Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (from January 19) and medical drama The Pitt.

Local series and movies from Germany and Italy will also be available in various markets. They include 4 Blocks prequel 4 Blocks Zero and heist drama Banksters from Germany and Italian productions Portobello, a factual drama based on story of wrongfully accused Enzo Tortora and docuseries Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa.

The Sports add-on will provide access to the Milano Cortino 2026 Winter Olympic Games and the Australian Open.

JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming & games at WBD, said: “It is exciting to kick off the New Year by expanding into some of the biggest economies in the world, as we continue to deliver HBO Max to new viewers. Fans in these markets have a lot to look forward to, with some incredible titles and events coming to the platform. Next up is the launch of HBO Max in the UK and Ireland in late March, which will complete HBO Max’s rollout across Europe.”
