VicScreen hires ex-ABC exec Sacha Gregson as director of content and talent

Victoria-based funding agency VicScreen in Australia has hired pubcaster the ABC’s former head of production Sacha Gregson as its new director of content and talent.

Sacha Gregson

Gregson steps into the role on April 7, leading a specialist team supporting Victorian film, television and digital games sectors through development, financing and production. She replaces Ross Hutchens, who vacated the role in October last year after 12 years at the screen agency.

Meanwhile, the ABC has appointed Megan Young to replace Gregson in the position of head of production for the screen division. Young has held production executive roles with the ABC since 2019 and was previously an investment manager executive at Screen NSW.

Gregson said of her new role: “I’m delighted to be joining VicScreen and to be working alongside local talent to develop and produce bold, high-quality multi-genre screen stories, while advancing inclusivity, representation and sustainability across the Victorian screen sector.”

Gregson has over 20 years’ experience across the UK and Australian public broadcasting sectors, starting her career at the BBC and joining the ABC in 2003. She most recently served as head of production for the ABC Screen division, a role she held from July 2023, and was previously the ABC’s head of content investment and policy for nearly four years.

VicScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher said Gregson was well placed to support the Victorian screen industry navigate a rapidly shifting global screen landscape. “She is equally well positioned to lead the development of, and investment in, Victorian talent and content that will be central to sustaining a strong pipeline of quality Victorian work. Sacha brings exceptional experience across commissioning, production and screen policy, as well as a rare combination of creative insight and governance expertise.”
