Viasat World bags Paramount movies

Sonic the Hedgehog was released in February

Broadcaster Viasat World has inked a two-year deal with ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group for more than 150 hours of movie content from Paramount Pictures.

Under the deal, Viasat World will get rights to more than 90 movies from Paramount, including recent hits that will be broadcast exclusively on the Viasat TV channels in Russia and CIS countries.

The agreement includes movies Gemini Man, starring Will Smith; Rocketman, inspired by the life of Elton John; and multiple instalments of the Mission: Impossible film franchise.

Other films that will air exclusively on Viasat TV channels and will also be made available on streaming service ViP Play are Sonic the Hedgehog, starring Jim Carrey; Dora and the Lost City of Gold; thriller Crawl; Stephen King adaptation Pet Sematary; Playing with Fire; and the animated film Wonder Park.

Viasat World said the ViacomCBS pact would “increase the amount of upcoming content on the Viasat TV channels and ViP Play online cinema available in Russia and CIS countries by 20%.”

Viasat World operates 30 pay TV channels and online services, such as Viasat Explore, Viasat History and Viasat Nature, and claims over 180 million subscriptions across three continents.
