Viasat racks up more movies

Viasat Broadcasting has bolstered its year-old Viaplay on-demand service with the addition of more than 500 movies from Sony Pictures Television and Walt Disney.

The deal means subscribers to Viaplay’s Film package in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland will be able to view over 300 Sony films, including Salt, The Karate Kid and Eat Pray Love on multiple screens.

The Walt Disney Company Nordic has licensed 200 titles, including The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Viasat, owned by European broadcast giant Modern Times Group (MTG), launched Viaplay across the Nordic region in January last year, giving its pay-TV customer access on internet-connected devices to TV series and premium live sports coverage from the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League and the NHL.
