Vanishing Act conjures up sales around the globe after Hulu, ITVX deals

Australian drama Vanishing Act is based on a true story

Australian drama Vanishing Act, about the disappearance of businesswoman Melissa Caddick, has found buyers in the US, the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and New Zealand, distributor DCD Rights has confirmed.

Produced by Screentime Banijay for Nine Network Australia, in association with Screen NSW, the series has been sold to: streaming service Hulu in the US; ITVX and ITV in the UK; pubcaster RTE in Ireland; C-More in Scandinavia; and Warner Bros Discovery in New Zealand.

Vanishing Act (3×45’/1×75’ & 1×60’) stars Kate Atkinson (Wentworth, Jack Irish) as Caddick alongside Colin Friels (Total Control), Jerome Velinksy (Love Child) and Maya Stange (A Place to Call Home). It is produced by Kerrie Mainwaring and Matt Ford – who also wrote the script alongside Michael Miller – and directed by Geoff Bennett.

It aired on Nine Network in April as part of the Underbelly true crime anthology, telling the story of Australian businesswoman and alleged swindler Caddick who disappeared in 2020, after which her running shoe washed ashore on a deserted beach – with her disembodied foot inside.

Nicky Davies Williams, CEO of DCD Rights, noted the “strong line-up of initial sales” for Vanishing Act and added: “It is a highly produced and exceptional Australian drama, which is even more compelling to viewers because it is based on a true story which is almost too incredible to believe.”
