UK, Israel head Golden Rose nominations

Producers from the UK and Israel lead the nominations for this year’s Rose d’Or Festival Awards, with the winners due to be announced at a ceremony in Lucerne in May.

The nominees were revealed yesterday in Kuala Lumpur after 36 programmes from more than 400 entries from around the world were shortlisted in 12 categories.

The Golden Rose prizes will be awarded at the end of the Rose d’Or Festival on May 10.

The nominees are:

  • Comedy What If?, produced by Shelter for VMMa in Belgium; Black Mirror: The National Anthem, produced by Zeppotron for Channel 4 in the UK; and The Saddest Sketch Show in the World, from Matar Formats for Channel 10 in Israel.
  • Sitcom Friday Night Dinner, produced by Big Talk Productions and Popper Pictures for Channel 4; Tall and Greenbaum, from Matar for Channel 2-Keshet; and Life’s Too Short, a BBC/HBO coproduction for the BBC.
  • Gameshow The Cube, produced by Objective Productions for ITV in the UK; Still Standing, from July August Productions and Armoza Formats for Channel 10; and The Million Pound Drop Live, from Remarkable Television for Channel 4.

  • Children Horrible Histories, produced by Lion Television in association with Citrus Television for the BBC; How to Survive?, from Lemming Film for AVRO in the Netherlands; and The Gruffalo’s Child, from Magic Light Pictures for the BBC.
  • Youth Leonardo, produced by Kindle Entertainment for the BBC; You’re Not a Werewolf, from tvision for WDR in Germany; and Dream High, from Korean Broadcasting System.
  • Live Event Show Born to Shine, produced by ITV Studios for ITV1; Eurovision Song Contest, from ARD and Brainpool TV for ARD in Germany; and For One Night Only, from Les Productions Rivard for ARTV in Canada.
  • Arts, Documentary and Performing Arts The Little Mermaid, produced by Bernhard Fleischer Moving Images for NDR/ARTE in Austria; Queen – Days of Our Lives, from Globe Productions and Queen Productions for the BBC; and The Sound of Ole Bull, from NRK Hordaland for NRK.
  • TV Movie Homevideo, produced by Teamworx Television and Film for NDR in Germany; De Sterkste Man van Nederland, from NL Film for KRO in the Netherlands; and Page Eight, from Carnival Films, Heyday Films, Runaway Fridge TV and Masterpiece for the BBC.
