TV4 chooses acquisitions boss

Swedish broadcaster TV4 has appointed a new head of acquisitions with responsibility for buying programme rights for the company’s C More and TV4 Group enterprises.

Sofie Schütt takes up the post from December 1, having been senior acquisitions manager since January when Cathrine Wiernik was elevated to director of programmes.

Schütt previously worked at MTG’s London office as senior acquisitions manager for free-to-air TV in Scandinavia and takes over from Maria Lidén, who had been TV4’s acting head of acquisitions. Lidén will continue in her previous role as senior acquisitions manager.

The changes come as the Bonnier-owned group prepares to launch its C More SVoD service later this year, along with sister companies Svensk Filmindustri and Finnish network MTV.

C More, taken over by Bonnier in 2014, is being turned from a linear broadcasting company into a digital-first outfit with its linear channels acting as an extension to the SVoD service.

The project, first revealed by C21, has been in the works since late last year and is being led by Cecilia Beck-Friis, exec VP for TV4 and chief development officer for Bonnier’s broadcast business.

Åsa Sjöberg was promoted to become director of content at TV4 last year as part of the plans to ramp up digital and scripted content.

TV4 said Schütt’s focus would be on the “cherry-picking” of titles rather than more traditional volume packages.

Wiernik said Schütt’s “unique skills that are essential given the current complex rights situation in the market” would “further strengthen our acquisition department and our position in the international arena.”

Schütt added: “Competition in the market is incredibly strong, but at the same time we have huge potential with strong linear channels and new VOD platforms on the way.
