TV4’s head of acquisitions Sofie Schutt is among the buyers back in Los Angeles this week for the return of the LA Screenings after a three-year hiatus and spoke to Nico Franks about what’s changed since she last attended in 2018.

Schutt talked about what she is looking to pick up for the Bonnier-owned broadcaster’s various channels and VoD services, as well as the Australian show that’s been creating buzz and other new series grabbing attention – not just from the US but around the world.

She also discussed the challenges of not all titles being available to buyers in certain territories due to the expansion of studio-owned streamers like Disney+ and HBO Max, and her mission to find a hot new procedural.

EQ Media Group was set up in 2020 following a rebrand of Essential Media & Entertainment after it was the subject of a management buy-out from the collapsed Kew Media Group.

The multi-genre company produces drama, documentaries, non-scripted series and lifestyle programming out of its joint Sydney and Los Angeles head offices in addition to its production hubs in Auckland, New Zealand and Dallas-Fort Worth.

It has worked on shows for broadcasters including Foxtel, Sundance, Stan, HGTV, ABC and Sky in the UK and recently saw its eight-episode crime drama Troppo launch on Amazon Freevee in the US after premiering on ABC down under earlier this year.

EQ Media head of scripted Lisa Duff spoke to Nico about why there is a growing appetite for trans-Pacific collaborations between Australian and US companies and what she hoped to achieve on her recent trip to LA.

C21FM is live 24/7, with a block of interviews starting at 10am BST every day HERE.
