Tubi grows adult animated series slate with new original Breaking Bear

Adult animated comedy Breaking Bear

Ad-supported streaming service Tubi has greenlit an adult animated comedy executive produced by former Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge that parodies the tropes of mobster dramas.

Created by Julien Nitzberg (The Wild & Wonderful Whites of West Virginia) and produced by Cartel Entertainment (Creepshow) and DeLonge’s To The Stars Media (Monsters of California), Breaking Bear comically combines elements of Yogi Bear with The Sopranos.

It follows the escapades of three bear siblings who decide they have to start selling drugs in order to raise money and save their home after gas companies start fracking next to their cave.

The bears soon enlist other forest animals in a scheme that will pit them against oil companies, the Russian mafia, local Hells Angels and polar bears who hate anything that isn’t white.

It is executive produced by DeLonge, Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, Bradford Bricken and Eric Woods. Nitzberg also serves as an executive producer and showrunner.

Multi-platinum recording artist DeLonge, who left pop punk band Blink-182 in 2015, is also a producer, director, author, researcher and entrepreneur. He set up To The Stars Inc in 2017 with former senior CIA officer Jim Semivan and physicist Dr Hal Puthoff.

The show joins Fox Entertainment-owned Tubi’s growing slate of adult animation. In May, three new movies – Pastacolypse, Millennial Hunter and Big Bruh – from Fox’s animation house Bento Box Entertainment were announced as Tubi originals.

Tubi’s adult animation offering also includes library titles such as Mike Tyson Mysteries, The PJs, SuperMansion, Brickleberry, Kevin Smith: Smodimations, Alien News Desk and Nerdland, in addition to original series The Freak Brothers, which stars Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, Pete Davidson and Tiffany Haddish.
