Treasure Trekkers explore Europe, Mid East

Treasure Trekkers is based on books by JS Friedman, who also exec produces

Broadcasters around Europe and the Middle East have acquired CGI action-comedy series Treasure Trekkers from UK-based kids’ entertainment firm Cake.

In France, Treasure Trekkers (52×11′) has been picked up by Canal+ for its channel Piwi+, while Cake has also secured broadcast deals for the show with YLE in Finland, Czech TV, TVP in Poland, Kidszone for the Baltics, Balapan in Kazakhstan and MBC in the Middle East.

In China, Treasure Trekkers was acquired for Alibaba-owned Youku through Chinese distributor Cawro and was among the top three overseas kids’ shows on the platform in the second quarter of 2020, according to Cake.

Treasure Trekkers is also already on air in the Middle East on Discovery Channel, in Indonesia on Trans 7 and in Europe on EITB in Spain, SVT in Sweden and Siminn in Iceland, where it premiered last month.

The show follows the intrepid adventures of three heroic mouse-sized adventurers, who are tasked with preserving and protecting the priceless treasures of the world.

It is exec produced by JS Friedman, author of the original book series Maurice’s Valises and former LazyTown Entertainment exec Agust Ingason.

The creative team also includes director Thierry Marchand (Oktapodi) and a writing team led by Andy Yerkes, with animation being done out of the company’s Tenerife based B-Water Animation Studios.

Ed Galton, chief commercial officer and MD at Cake, said: “Coupled with adventures from all around the world, the series is naturally appealing to broadcasters, who recognise the need for content promoting friendship, kindness and positivity particularly relevant at this time.”
