TeamTO boards Triggerfish animated series, gets interest from Ireland’s RTÉ

TeamTO and Triggerfish are boarding Tonko & the Siza Mask

CARTOON FORUM: French animation studio TeamTO has joined forces with South African prodco Triggerfish on its latest animated series, while Irish pubcaster RTÉ has expressed an interest in the project.

TeamTO has boarded the series, called Tonko & the Siza Mask, as a coproducer. Aimed at six-to nine-year-olds and produced in both 2D and 3D animation, the 52×11’ series was pitched by Triggerfish at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse today.

Described as Ben 10 meets Steven Universe, Tonko & the Siza Mask is an action-comedy that follows a boy who is sent to his aunt’s village for the summer, where he discovers an ancient family mask that allows him to transform into his ancestors and harness their mystical superpowers.

The series was created and designed by Ter­ence Maluleke and written by Tshe­po Moche, Raf­fael­la Delle Donne and Marc Dey.

Triggerfish is based in both South Africa and Ireland. RTÉ’s head of children’s and young people’s content, Suzanne Kelly, praised Tonko & the Siza Mask during the Cartoon Forum pitch for its focus on family connections.
