SVT greenlights thriller sequel My Mother based on Karin Smirnoff book

Filmlance’s My Mother is adapted from a Janna Kippo novel

Swedish public broadcaster SVT has commissioned Nordic thriller series My Mother, based on the second instalment of Karin Smirnoff’s best-selling Janna Kippo book series.

A follow-up to SVT’s My Brother, it will be produced by Banijay label Filmlance in alliance with NRK, DR, YLE, RUV and regional film fund Filmpool Nord.

The new season, to premiere next spring, sees Jana (Amanda Jansson) and her brother Bror (Rasmus Johansson) return to Kukkojärvi to bury their mother, only to uncover revelations that fundamentally reshape their understanding of their family’s past.

Sanna Lenken (The Thin Blue Line) returns to direct this series, while serving as head writer alongside Maria Karlsson.
