Super Channel rejigs top team

Don McDonald, president and CEO of Super Channel, has restructured the Canadian broadcaster’s executive team.

McDonald has created a new level of executives promoted from Super Channel’s team of directors, reducing the number of staff who report directly to him.

Jackie Pardy, currently director of programming, will be promoted to chief content officer, where she will oversee all aspects of content acquisition and development across all four channels, as well as network scheduling.

Pardy, formerly at Corus Entertainment, joined Super Channel in April, replacing former CBC exec Jenny Hacker, who had only been with Super Channel for five months.

Katie Lee will become chief marketing officer, elevated from her current position of director, consumer marketing, while Marlene Lone, previously director, affiliate marketing, will see her title changed to chief revenue officer.

Lee will be responsible for a newly renamed revenue department (previously affiliate sales).

Carol Ljuden, as chief technology officer, will be responsible for all broadcast operations and information technology, with the focus on moving Super Channel on to new platforms.

Rounding out the executive team will be Richard Paradis, business affairs and regulatory, and Lynn Fowler, human resources. A chief financial officer, to be named later, will be the final member of the team and McDonald will assume those responsibilities until the position is filled.

All changes are effective from today. No lay-offs were associated with the restructure, Super Channel said.

“In June 2016, at the outset of our restructuring, we initially set up a flat organisation, which was necessary, and now it is time to evolve to allow the company to become nimbler and focus on our strategic priorities,” McDonald said.

Super Channel is a national pay television network, featuring four commercial-free channels: Super Channel Fuse, Super Channel Heart & Home, Super Channel Vault and GINX Esports TV Canada, alongside Super Channel On Demand. It is owned by Edmonton-based media company Allarco Entertainment 2008.
