StudioCanal TV, Deadpan Pictures prep ‘pre-teen Bridget Jones’ book adaptation

The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks runs to nine novels

France’s StudioCanal Television and Irish outfit Deadpan Pictures (Irish Blood) are to develop a live-action adaptation of Katie Kirby’s bestselling book series The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks.

Described by Deadpan as the “pre-teen Bridget Jones,” the books follow the 11-year-old eponymous character, who must deal with the awkwardness of growing up and going to high school.

The nine novels are published by Puffin and have sold three million copies in 205 countries.

The show will be adapted for TV by comedian, writer and filmmaker Josie Long (Skins) and writer/showrunner Holly Phillips (The Athena). StudioCanal Stories, StudioCanal’s in-house book-to-screen label, secured the rights to the books.

StudioCanal Kids & Family will handle global merchandising and licensing.
