StudioCanal invites buyers to play Kidnap Game at Mipcom

Kidnap Game debuted on Fuji TV in Japan last week

MIPCOM: France’s StudioCanal is launching international sales for pan-Asian survival thriller series Kidnap Game at Mipcom this week.

Produced by Japan’s Fuji Television Network, Hong Kong’s MakerVille and South Korea’s Simstory, Kidnap Game (11×60’) unfolds across seven cities throughout Asia, centring on a wave of simultaneous abductions in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok, Naha and Manila.

The victims’ families are tasked by the kidnappers with completing a unique mission in a desperate race against time. Seven strangers, divided by nationality, background and faith, are thrust together and forced into a deadly competition to save their loved ones. But the catch is, only one can be saved.

Directed and produced by Yusuke Kato, Kidnap Game premiered on Fuji TV in Japan last week and simultaneously launched in 28 Asian territories. These include Korea (Channel A and Disney+), Taiwan (Hami Video / Chunghwa Telecom), Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and other regions via Viu.

Canal+ has acquired the multilingual series for its territories in Europe, French-speaking Africa and Asia. StudioCanal handles global distribution including North America, Europe and other regions.

M K Kennedy, MD of StudioCanal Worldwide Television, said: “Kidnap Game is an exciting example of how creative ambition and international collaboration are shaping the future of premium television. By bringing together outstanding partners from Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea, the series delivers a distinctive proposition for audiences worldwide.”
