Strong Studios begins production on Safehaven series with The Cartel

Fledgling New York-based producer and distributor Strong Studios is working with US production, finance and management firm The Cartel on a supernatural thriller.

Safehaven has begun production in Winnipeg, Canada and stars Georgie Murphy, Bob Frazer and Gino Anania. Directed by Kaare Andrews, the 10-episode series was created by James Seale (30 Below) who serves as showrunner.

It tells the story of a high-school comic artist who must uncover the truth after horrifying visions come to life from her creations, threatening to destroy everything around her.

The series comes shortly after Strong Studios, a subsidiary of US holding company Ballantyne Strong, launched earlier this year.

The project was first announced in 2020, when it was due to be produced by Chicken Soup for the Soul-owned prodco Landmark Studio and Louisiana-based Orwo Studios.

It is produced by Strong Studios, The Cartel and Kevin V Duncan. Executive producers include Seale, Stan Spry, Eric Woods, Anthony Fankhauser, Peter Odiorne, Matt Harton, Larry Swets, Hassan Baqar, Kyle Cerminara, Mark Roberson, David Ozer, David Fannon, Seth Needle, David Nagelberg, Brad Turner and Jessica Petelle. Production has been financed by Bank of Hope’s David Henry and Andrew King.

“Safehaven will be a visually-stunning supernatural thriller with plot twists, dark humour, a slick script and engaging characters that will no doubt deliver a bingeable series appealing to a broad audience,” said Spry, CEO at The Cartel.
