Spanish production services company Palma Pictures makes scripted move

Spain-based film, TV and commercial production services company Palma Pictures has made the move into original scripted content with a slate of new projects.

Palma Pictures Studios comes after its parent company has provided end-to-end production service on shows such as The Crown and The Night Manager.

Headed up by existing Palma Pictures executives Trent Walton and Mike Day, its scripted division has numerous projects already on its slate after optioning a series of novels and IP.

Shows in development targeting international audiences include: Love, Jack – a miniseries inspired by the secret love affair between Gunilla Von Post and JF Kennedy; a Palma-set TV series based on novels by Swedish writer Mons Kallentoft; and a TV adaptation of live West End comedy show String vs Spitta, created and performed by Ed MacArthur and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.

Palma Pictures claims to be one of the world’s leading one-stop shops for production clients in media production including TV commercials, TV dramas, reality and entertainment formats and feature films.

Founded in 1993 by husband-and-wife Ola and Grete Holmgren, the business has serviced over 25 feature films and TV series for clients from dozens of countries.

Working across mainland Spain and the Balearic and Canary Islands, the business has a production office in Barcelona and its own purpose-built, fully equipped studio complex, The Mediterranean Production Centre, in Mallorca.

“Drawing upon our Scandinavian, Spanish and British roots, we will combine the work of international authors and writers to tell nuanced local stories with global reach,” said Palma Pictures Studios executive producer Trent Walton.

“With our experience and network borne from working with some of the world’s top filmmakers over the past 30 years, we are looking forward to creating our own originals for the first time,” said Palma Pictures Studios executive producer Mike Day.
