Spain’s RTVE acquires All3Media’s Race Across the World format

RTVE is preparing a Spanish adaptation of Race Across the World

Spanish pubcaster RTVE is preparing an adaptation of Race Across the World, the hit format created by Studio Lambert and distributed by All3Media International.

Produced by RTVE in collaboration with Banijay Iberia’s Zeppelin, the Spanish adaptation will star celebrities from the worlds of culture, sports and television, accompanied by a trusted contestant.

Participants must travel an extensive route through Latin America without using airplanes or electronic devices, such as smart phones or GPS, and must travel solely by land or sea, with a limited budget equivalent to the price of an airline ticket from the starting point to the end of the route.

The format was originally commissioned by UK pubcaster the BBC, which has aired five seasons. It has also been adapted in the Netherlands, Denmark and Finland. In addition, a German version for ZDF and a Norwegian version for Discovery are being produced this year.

The deal with RTVE is part of the renewal of the broadcaster’s programming following the arrival of José Pablo López as the new president of RTVE and Sergio Calderón as director of Televisión Española.

Since then, RTVE has been announcing new projects such as adaptations of Baggage’ (NBCUniversal), Trivial Pursuit’ (Satisfaction Iberia) and The Dog House’ (All3Media), the production of original format DecoMasters’ (Shine Iberia) and comedy series Sin gluten’ (Onza).
