Smulders to front ABC Stumptown series

US broadcast network ABC has ordered a drama series based on a comic book and starring Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

The as-yet-untitled project is based on the Oni Press comic series Stumptown, which follows a strong, assertive and unapologetically sharp-witted US Army veteran (Smulders) working as a private investigator in Portland, Oregon.

With a complicated personal history and only herself to rely on, she solves other people’s messes but turns a blind eye towards her own.

Alongside Smulders, cast attached to the project includes Adrian Martinez, Camryn Manheim, Cole Sibus, Michael Ealy and Tantoo Cardinal.

It will be produced by ABC Studios and The District, with executive producers David Bernad, Greg Rucka, Jason Richman, Justin Greenwood, Matthew Southworth and Ruben Fleischer. The pilot is directed by James Griffiths.
