Singapore’s Refinery Media moves into AI and APAC with Gengis AI studio investment

The founders of Singapore based reality and lifestyle production company Refinery Media have invested in Gengis AI, an AI enabled, production-ready studio.

The studio facility, which was launched last month in Singapore, is in active talks with producers and content partners across the Asia Pacific region, the company told C21.

“We are deliberately set up to work with producers and partners across the region. Gengis AI is designed to embed into existing production workflows wherever projects are based, and we’re open to collaborating with producers across Asia Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand,” Gengis AI co-founder and chief executive Joel Lim revealed.

“At this early stage, our focus is on conversations and collaboration. And we welcome discussions with ANZ producers who are interested in applying AI in real production environments. We see strong potential to work regionally as those partnerships take shape,” Lim added.

The remit of the new studio is to leverage AI across development, virtual production and post-production for a range of screen platforms including film, television, commercials and short-form content

The co-founders of Refinery Media, producers Karen Seah and Tan Sian Ju have partnered with virtual production specialist Lim to create Gengis AI. Refinery Media’s projects include Asia’s Next Top Model, The Apprentice: One Championship Edition, and SupermodelMe Revolution. It is also working on its first co-produced feature film, Mothernet, premiering on Netflix.

“As working filmmakers, we prioritise what actually ships. Gengis AI workflows help productions iterate faster, take bolder creative risks and scale ambition, all while keeping human creators at the centre,” Lim added.

The studio is positioning itself as a production partner, rather than a technology solutions provider and is focused on AI-driven VFX generation and intelligent virtual set extensions that optimise LED walls for real-time environments.

In its launch slate, Gengis AI is collaborating with Refinery Media on digital-first microdramas and short-form projects.
