Showtime orders second season of previously limited series Your Honor

Showtime’s Your Honor was adapted from Israeli series Kvodo

Showtime has renewed Your Honor for a second season, despite having initially ordered the Peter Moffat-penned drama as a limited series.

The hit show stars Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as a respected New Orleans judge whose teenage son is involved in a hit-and-run that leads to a high-stakes game of lies, deceit and impossible choices.

Based on Israeli series Kvodo, created by Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach, it will return for a second season after Bafta winner Moffat (The Night Of) and Cranston agreed to stay on board.

The show, produced by CBS Studios in association with KingSize Productions, is currently the network’s most-watched series. Production will begin on 10 more episodes next year.

In addition to Moffat, the series is executive produced by Emmy nominees Robert and Michelle King (The Good Wife) and Liz Glotzer. Emmy-winning producer Cranston and Emmy-nominated producer James Degus exec produce the series for Moonshot Entertainment.

Rob Golenberg, Alon Aranya, Ninio, Mashiach, Ram Landes, Ron Eilon and Danna Stern also exec produce.

Gary Levine

Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment at Showtime Networks, said: “We were blown away by the power of Peter’s storytelling, by the depth of Bryan’s performance and by the overwhelming reaction from our subscribers who watched in record numbers. Imagine our delight when we learned that Peter believed he had more story to tell and Bryan felt he had more depths to plumb.”

Showtime has also renewed Flatbush Misdemeanors, the show that centres on two long-time friends seeking to climb out of their heads and connect with others, for a second season.

Created by Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman, who both star, the comedy is an adaptation of Iso and Perlman’s digital series of the same name. It is a coproduction between Showtime and Avalon, which will continue to act as lead studio.

The series is executive produced by Perlman and Iso alongside Avalon’s Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello.

Meanwhile, Showtime has ordered a pilot of comedy The Wood, based on the 1999 movie written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa.

The romantic comedy takes an honest look at friendship and dating from the perspective of three young Black males born and raised in a gentrifying LA suburb, Showtime said.

Famuyiwa will direct the pilot and exec produce with David Gale, Van Toffler and Justin Hillian, who will write the script, while Paramount Television Studios will produce.

In related news, Showtime has renewed Desus & Mero, its first late-night talkshow, for season four.

Recent guests have included Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Lil Nas X, Matt Damon, YoYo Ma, Dr Anthony Fauci, Eddie Murphy, Idris Elba, H.E.R. and Glenn Close.
